Overview

DIN Related Forms, handled end to end.

A Director Identification Number (DIN) is the unique number every director needs, and it carries its own set of forms and an annual obligation. The DIN is obtained through DIR-3 (or via SPICe+ at incorporation), updated for any change in particulars through DIR-6, and can be surrendered through DIR-5.

Crucially, every DIN holder must complete DIR-3 KYC every year — failure deactivates the DIN and attracts a fee to reactivate it, blocking the director from acting until restored. We manage the full DIN lifecycle, including timely KYC and reactivation, within our change management and compliance services.

Frequently asked questions

DIN Related Forms, answered.

What is a DIN and who needs one?

A Director Identification Number (DIN) is a unique number that every individual must have to be appointed as a director of a company. It is obtained before or at the time of appointment, and stays with the individual across companies. We obtain and maintain DINs for directors.

How is a DIN obtained?

A DIN is obtained by filing Form DIR-3 with the required identity and address documents, or it is allotted through the SPICe+ incorporation form when a new company is registered. We handle the application and the supporting documentation.

What is DIR-3 KYC and is it annual?

DIR-3 KYC is the annual know-your-customer filing that every DIN holder must complete to keep the DIN active. It is mandatory each year, and we file it for all your directors within the deadline to avoid deactivation.

What happens if DIR-3 KYC is not filed?

If the annual KYC is not filed, the DIN is deactivated, and the director cannot act or sign filings until it is reactivated by completing the KYC and paying a reactivation fee. We track the deadline and, if a DIN has lapsed, reactivate it promptly.

How do I update my DIN details?

Any change in a director's particulars linked to the DIN — such as name, address or contact details — is updated by filing Form DIR-6 with supporting proof. We file the update so the DIN records stay accurate.

Can a DIN be surrendered or cancelled?

Yes. A DIN can be surrendered or cancelled in certain circumstances by filing Form DIR-5, for example where it was never used or was duplicated. We assess eligibility and handle the surrender where appropriate.
