FCRA Registration

Complete FCRA registration in Goa under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act 2010 — normal registration or prior permission, the mandatory FCRA account at SBI New Delhi, and the MHA compliance — so your NGO can lawfully receive foreign donations.

Overview

FCRA Registration, handled end to end.

An NGO cannot accept foreign contributions without clearance under the FCRA 2010, administered by the Ministry of Home Affairs. There are two routes: normal registration (broadly for organisations at least three years old that have spent a minimum on their objects) valid for five years, and prior permission for a specific donor and project where the organisation is newer.

Since the 2020 amendments, foreign contribution must be received into a designated FCRA account at the State Bank of India, New Delhi Main Branch, and a DARPAN ID is generally needed first. We assess the right route, prepare the application, and set up the compliance — then keep you compliant with FCRA returns.

Frequently asked questions

FCRA Registration, answered.

What is FCRA registration?

FCRA registration is the clearance under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act 2010, granted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, that allows an NGO to lawfully receive foreign contributions. Without it — or prior permission — accepting foreign donations is prohibited.

What is the difference between registration and prior permission?

Normal registration is for established organisations, broadly those at least three years old that have spent a minimum amount on their core objects, and is valid for five years. Prior permission is for newer organisations to receive a specific amount from a specific foreign donor for a specific project. We advise which fits you.

Where must foreign contributions be received?

Since the 2020 amendments, all foreign contribution must first be received into a designated FCRA account opened at the State Bank of India, New Delhi Main Branch. Other accounts can be used for utilisation, but receipt must go through this account. We set this up for you.

Is a DARPAN ID required for FCRA?

Yes, in practice a NITI Aayog DARPAN ID is generally required before applying for FCRA, along with the organisation's other registrations. We obtain the DARPAN ID first and then proceed with the FCRA application.

How long is FCRA registration valid?

FCRA registration is valid for five years and must be renewed before expiry to continue receiving foreign contributions. We track the validity and handle renewal, since a lapse stops foreign funding.

Can FCRA funds be transferred to another NGO?

No. Following the 2020 amendments, an FCRA-registered organisation cannot transfer foreign contribution to any other person or organisation, and there is a cap on administrative expenses. We build your processes to stay within these rules.
