Import Export Code

Fast Import Export Code (IEC) registration in Goa — the PAN-based 10-digit code from the DGFT that is mandatory to import or export from India — applied for online, with the required annual update handled so your IEC never gets deactivated.

Overview

Import Export Code, handled end to end.

An Importer-Exporter Code (IEC) is mandatory for anyone importing into or exporting from India, issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). It is a PAN-based 10-digit code with lifetime validity — but it must be updated and confirmed every year, between April and June, or it is deactivated.

We apply for the IEC on the DGFT portal, link your PAN, bank and digital signature, and complete the registration quickly. We also handle the annual IEC update — a step many businesses miss — and connect the IEC to your ICEGATE and export LUT.

Frequently asked questions

Import Export Code, answered.

What is an Import Export Code (IEC)?

An IEC is a 10-digit code issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade that is mandatory for importing or exporting goods (and certain services) from India. It is PAN-based, so one IEC is issued per PAN, and it is essential to clear customs and receive or send foreign payments.

Who needs an IEC?

Any person or business that imports into or exports from India needs an IEC, with limited exemptions for personal use and certain notified categories. If you intend to trade internationally, the IEC is the first registration to obtain, and we apply for it for you.

Does an IEC need to be renewed?

An IEC has lifetime validity, but it must be updated and confirmed every financial year, generally between April and June, even if there are no changes. If the annual update is missed, the IEC is deactivated, so we handle this step for you each year.

How long does it take to get an IEC?

Once PAN, bank details and the digital signature are ready, an IEC is usually issued quickly through the DGFT portal, often within a few working days. We prepare a complete application to avoid rejections and delays.

What if my IEC has been deactivated?

An IEC deactivated for a missed annual update can be reactivated by completing the update on the DGFT portal. We reactivate lapsed IECs and then keep the annual update on track so it does not happen again.

How does the IEC relate to GST and LUT?

The IEC authorises you to trade internationally, GST governs the tax on those supplies, and a LUT lets you export without paying IGST. They work together, and we align your IEC with your GST and LUT so exports run smoothly.
